10710NAT Course in Allergy and Anaphylaxis Awareness is aimed at childcare workers who work in Outside School Hours Care and crèche services, Out of Home Carers and Pre-school teachers and aides. It is a required qualification to raise awareness of allergies and anaphylaxis in the community home and workplace setting.

Course outline

10710NAT Course in Allergy and Anaphylaxis Awareness is designed to provide knowledge and skills in the recognition and management of allergies, anaphylaxis, risk assessment, risk minimisation and Anaphylaxis First Aid procedures.

Skills and Knowledge covered

  • Allergens and triggers of allergic and anaphylactic reactions.
  • Signs and symptoms of allergic/anaphylactic reactions.
  • Anaphylaxis action plans and medications.
  • First Aid principles for allergic/anaphylactic reactions
  • Strategies for minimisation of the risks of anaphylaxis
  • Interpreting legislation, guidelines and policy pertaining to safe allergic/anaphylactic practice and associated medication procedures.
  • Assessing options pertaining to safe/allergic/anaphylactic practice to minimise risk in the workplace.

ACECQA Requirements

This course meets current ACECQA requirements for Asthma Management Training.

Qualifications

Upon successful completion, the participants will receive a Statement of Attainment issued by the Asthma Australia (RTO Provider Number 4987).

Pre-requisities

There are no specific entry requirements or pre-requirements. However, it is recommended that participants have literacy and numeracy competencies equivalent to the National Reporting System (NRS) Level 2.

Assessments

  • Practical demonstration of Anaphylaxis First Aide using available adrenaline auto-injector training devices.
  • Written multiple choice test
  • Completion of a risk minimization plan contextualized to the workplace.

Pricing and delivery

Weekdays - $75.00 per person

Weekday evenings - $75.00 per person (minimum 6 participants)

Saturdays - $95.00 per person (minimum 10 participants)
