AFNT 40 year celebration dinner at the Trailer Boat Club

Oh, What A Night!

On Friday August 5th 2022 we had a dinner at the Trailer Boat Club to celebrate our 40th year helping Territorians breathe better.

The night was very well attended with over 50 people from all walks of life. We had past and present staff and clients, AFNT board members, local health professionals and members.

Both sides of the NT government were well represented as were both Darwin and Palmerston Councils and the local Lions clubs.

We were extremely pleased that the Administrator the Honourable Viki O’Halloran and our patron Mr O’Halloran were able to attend. Mr O’Halloran made a lovely speech honouring the work that has been done in Asthma in the NT over the past 40 years.

Due to some great detective work and the Darwin jungle drums our CEO Leanne Elliott-Holmes was able to track down one of the founding members Dr David Lo who is a life member and was very involved in the early days of AFNT for around 16 years. He and his family were in attendance on the night.

Jeanneen Mclennan did a touching welcome to country. Her family has been majorly impacted by Asthma and she expressed gratitude for the work that we do throughout the Territory.

There were many highlights of the night but one that really shone out was the presentation by our CEO Leanne Elliott-Holmes on the History of The Asthma foundation NT which was founded by Joy King in 1982. It was amazing to see how things have changed over the 40 years but also how many things remain the same.

We raised a significant amount from the raffle of a beautiful gift basket generously donated by Aboriginal Bush Traders. This was won by James Wright chairperson of Asthma Australia.

Also needing a mention was the fabulous service from the staff at the trailer boat club. Talk about being spoilt! We wanted for nothing on the night, and we highly recommend them if you are wanting to hold a function of some kind.

All in all, a fabulous night! The weather was glorious, the setting was beautiful, and the food was amazing, add to that the awesome company and a wonderful night was had by all.

To everyone involved, we would like to say a heartfelt thankyou for making the night so very special.

AFNT acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we meet and conduct our services, respecting language and culture and elders past and present.
