Education Consultation

Our experienced team of respiratory health educators at Asthma Foundation NT offer personalised asthma education sessions for individuals dealing with asthma as well as to their family members and carers. We offer support and up to date information during these sessions relevant to your experiences and questions.

We're here to help you get on top of asthma

We know that sometimes being diagnosed with asthma, or experiencing a flare up of asthma symptoms, can be frightening and frustrating. For some families this can be made worse because it is your child who may have asthma.

Many of our clients feel overwhelmed with the different ways asthma can be managed so our education sessions are designed to give you the opportunity to talk about your experiences and ask the questions that are important to you.

Our aim is to help you and your family feel confident managing and being in control of your asthma.

Whether you are newly diagnosed or have been managing your asthma for several years, your education session will be tailored to your needs.

Common topics covered

  • What asthma is
  • Signs and symptoms
  • Assessing your level of asthma control
  • How your medications are working to help manage your asthma
  • Check your device technique
  • Identifying triggers and how to manage them
  • Understanding your asthma action plan and how to use it as your asthma control changes
  • Asthma First Aid including when to call an ambulance

About our educators

Our respiratory health educators regularly continue to develop their skills and knowledge, ensuring that we are able to provide information based on the newest research and recommendations from peak national asthma bodies.

Our educators are also experienced with providing asthma education to children of all ages. One of our priorities is to involve your child, who has been diagnosed with asthma, providing information in a way which allows them to participate in the session to the level of their development.

This is one way we work with children to help manage their fear of their symptoms, be more cooperative and independent in their asthma management, and allow them to develop a proactive and confident attitude to their condition as they grow.

Get as much help as you need

You are welcome to access as many education sessions as you need. You may want just one session to clarify a couple of issues or you may decide you want more to allow the opportunity to absorb the information in smaller pieces.

We recommend more sessions for families seeking help with their child's asthma to allow more detailed information to be given, and facilitate the children taking on more responsibility as they get older.
